Asheville is Best in Autumn

We are often asked when our season ends, and the answer is easy- we don’t! We are the only outfitter in Asheville happy to put you on the water year round! Come join us!

Autumn is my favorite time of year: a cool breeze rustles the leaves around, the fire pit is lit, and a mug of hot toddy warms my hand. It’s also one of the best times to get out on the river because it’s too chilly for tubers (but still warm air temps), the changing leaves are beautiful, and the wildlife is more visible and active. Enjoy the French Broad without the bustle of summer.

Western North Carolina and the area around Asheville have one of the longest and most diverse fall color seasons in the world because of the great biodiversity among deciduous (leaf-shedding) trees and the significant variances in altitude among mountain ridges, slopes, and valleys. The higher in elevation you go, the earlier the leaves change. So if you don’t see the bright crimsons and oranges that you are looking for today, it’s an easy drive up the Blue Ridge for spectacular views. Asheville’s Tourism Website’s Weekly Foliage Updates are great jumping off points to find the best color. Fall Camping

Camping is ideal this time of year, with the lack of bugs, mild daytime temperatures, and cool nights to snuggle up in a sleeping bag. We rent all the camping equipment you need for a pleasant evening outdoors- tents, cook stoves, sleeping bags and pads, hiking backpacks, and more. We can also get you set up to combine our favorite things with a multi-day canoeing trip!

While we are missing our usual rainy fall, it is still racing season for Southeastern kayakers! The Russell Fork Rendezvous is next weekend, and the Green Race is coming up quickly! (Don’t know about the Green Race? Check out last year’s blog post on the country’s most extreme kayaking race!) If you haven’t 303’ed your gaskets (or repaired them), let us help you get your gear ready!

We would love to have you join us this autumn, for more information on our river trips click here, or give us a call at (828) 505-7371!
